Summer Skin Protection
Summer is here! While it just comes naturally to want to be outside enjoying the warm, sunny longer days, remember a few quick tips to help protect your skin!
1. Did you know that 90% of skin aging is due to sun damage? When selecting a sunscreen product, be sure to check the label before you buy. Sunscreens with broad spectrum protection (against UVA and UVB rays) and with sun protection factor (SPF) values of 15 or higher are recommended.
2. Make sure you're applying enough broad-spectrum sunscreen. When using an SPF 30 sunscreen and applying it thickly, you get the equivalent of 1 minute of UVB rays for each 30 minutes you spend in the sun. So, 1 hour in the sun wearing SPF 30 sunscreen is the same as spending 2 minutes totally unprotected. People often do not apply enough sunscreen, so the actual protection they get is less.
3. Wear hats and sunglasses with UV protection. There are many clothing lines that also provide UV protection, also.
4. Many daily moisturizers now provide good broad-spectrum sun protection, with added benefits of either hydrating, brightening, or oil-control for your skin, as well. Looking for a higher SPF? Charisma Skin’s new Brightening Day Protection SPF-50 is fast becoming a favorite of many clients, and it provides broad-spectrum protection against damaging UVA/UVB rays.
5. Remember to re-apply your broad-spectrum sunscreen every 2 hours, and re-apply every time you get wet at the beach, swimming or perspiring while enjoying your favorite outdoor activities.
So be safe in the sun and enjoy your Summer!
