Winter Skin Tips - Part 2

Posted  on by

Winter can be really hard on our skin. For our skin to remain healthy during Winter it’s imperative that we keep the skin hydrated and moisturized. Dehydrated, dry skin is typically more sensitive during the colder months, and it even can get flaky and crack. Dry skin is also more prone to becoming itchy, and when you scratch, you can actually tear your skin. Adding extra hydrating serum and moisturizer to your skin’s dry areas will help give it some extra TLC.  This month, I've included some great Winter skin tips from a few industry experts from a recent skincare professionals magazine below.

"There is no doubt that winter takes a toll on our skin. As the temperature drops, our skin’s ability to defend itself is also compromised which results in dry, itchy and inflamed skin. This is why it is important especially at this time of year, to pay close attention to taking care of your skin.” Susie Hutson

“You also want to focus on minimizing exposure to harsh elements and environmental assaults, which could lead to broken capillaries. If you’re doing any kind of exfoliation treatment, make sure to always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect it from the sun’s harmful UVA/UVB rays.”Joan Sutton

“Another game changer is to invest in a highly concentrated hyaluronic acid system and layering with a good moisturizer to lock in the moisture and help keep your skin plump- but don’t skip the SPF! Regardless of the temp outside, always wear the sunscreen.” Sally Breedlove.

Charisma Skin's newly reformulated Hyaluronic Acid Serum is an excellent choice to deliver deep hydration into the skin, and HA is also a driver for other importantingredients to follow, so always apply your Hyaluronic Acid Serum first after cleansing and toning your skin.

DAMAGE CONTROL

"Cold and dry wintertime air can rob skin of essential hydration, and also initiate inflammation. Also, we naturally lose pigmentation in winter, making our skin especially susceptible to the damaging effects of UV. This all can result in dull, uneven skin. It is essential to nourish and protect our skin in wintertime with medical grade moisturizers and serums that contain vitamin C and peptides. And of course, don’t forget to apply a daily sunscreen to avoid UV damage!” Tanuj Nakra, M.D., F.A.C.S,

INGREDIENT MUST-HAVES

"All skin types are prone to dehydration. Hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, panthenol, glycerin, jojoba oil, shea butter, glycolic acid, lactic acid, bisabolol, to mention a few will restore water loss in Winter Skin.  Maintaining a consistent regimen will prevent trans epidermal water loss (TEWL). Exfoliate, hydrate and protect!  Exfoliation sloughs off dead skin and normalizes cell turnover to reveal new skin. Hydration from serums and moisturizers are a drink of water for the skin, and protection will prevent cellular damage and slow down the aging process. Use a physical sunscreen 365 days a year!" Ntuthu Dlamini

Charisma Skin's mineral foundations all offer physical barrier SPF, which means they contain either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, or both, which are natural minerals that provide physical barrier sun protection for the skin.  Check out our Mineral Liquid Powder Foundation (my personal favorite), our BB Creme, Mineral Sheer Tint and Loose Mineral Powder Foundation, all on sale now through Feb. 28th!
